The Bio Park is a fantastic day out for the family and not as pricey as Selwo Safari or as sun exposed due to the shelter from the trees, even in July it felt nice and cool.
We’ve been there twice now with our two year old and have only managed to see the Baobab tour. It’s held every 45 min (This probably varies depending on the season) You enter though the artificial Baobab tree for a brief talk, in English and Spanish, then you enter the enclosure. Honestly with a two year old it was pretty hard to keep her interested within the dimness of the tree and quiet enough so everyone else could hear the talk. We resulted in bribing her with some snacks, which had to be taken away / hidden when we entered the enclosure. Both times we’ve seen the lemurs up close, the most recent because they were intrigued by a wheelchair.
There is a show “Forest clearing” which recreates a forest clearing and has animals on show. There is also a children’s play area, again yet to be used us, but in our opinion on a busy day we wouldn’t our two year old in there with the older children. For a charge there is face painting but not sure if available all year round.
We ate in the restaurant the first time and then brought our own snacks the second time as we weren’t really that impressed with what was available. The main restaurant is located at the entrance/exit and there’s a café located at the end. Both have toilets.
The visit in July was especially worth the trip was we able to watch a deer give birth. The staff were on hand, should they be needed, and where answering the hundreds of questions being asked by those watching. It really was a humbling sight to see, and hats off to her for doing it all natural – No gas or epidural!
It really is worth a visit. If you don’t want to use your beach time at the park it would make a good last day of the holiday trip, you know when you have to check out at 10.00 but your flight isn’t until the evening! You will be amazed at the size of it. You just wouldn’t think there was a zoo in the city.
